Department of Industry and Trade in cooperation with MM Mega Market Vietnam organize “OCOP Fair – Vietnamese specialties Development and Integration” in Hanoi, Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City

November 10, 2022 – This morning, the Department of Industry and Trade in collaboration with MM Mega Market Vietnam (“MM”) simultaneously held the opening ceremony of “OCOP Fair – Vietnamese Specialties Development and Integration” (“OCOP Fair”) in three cities of Hanoi, Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh. This is the second year that MM has cooperated with the Department of Industry and Trade to promote the consumption of OCOPs (One Commune – One Product) and unique agricultural products across the country, while connecting OCOP manufacturers and suppliers with MM’s global distribution channels.

The “OCOP Fair – Vietnamese Specialties Development and Integration” will take place in the three largest cities from 10 to 13 November and gather approximately 150 stalls to display and sell OCOP products, which are produced by local enterprises and cooperatives in Vietnam. The products featured in this year’s OCOP Fair are in the following categories: agricultural, forestry and fishery products, craft village products, typical commercial products, safe and organic food, quality consumer goods, etc., that satisfies all the demands of consumers when visiting and shopping here.

In Hanoi, the OCOP Fair is held at MM Mega Market Thang Long, attracting about 70 stalls from provinces, such as Ha Giang, Lao Cai, Son La, Phu Yen, Cao Bang, Lai Chau, Hung Yen, etc. and districts in Hanoi. At MM Mega Market Da Nang, there are up to 30 booths displaying and introducing OCOP products; typical rural industry of enterprises, cooperatives, production and business establishments in Da Nang city and several provinces and cities in the Central – Central Highlands region. Meanwhile in Ho Chi Minh City, the OCOP Fair is held at MM Mega Market An Phu, with the participation of 40 booths displaying and selling OCOP products of the southern provinces.

At the opening ceremony, Mr. Bruno Jousselin – Managing Director of MM Mega Market Vietnam, said: “Since signing the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Ministry of Industry and Trade in August 2019, MM Mega Market Vietnam has continuously cooperated with the Departments of Industry and Trade of the provinces and cities to implement many programs to execute the agreed contents, which further promotes the connection and consumption of Vietnamese goods in MM’s distribution system, and guides Vietnamese manufacturers to enhance the quality of goods. Hence, we will be able to meet the standards and regulations of distributors in the context of economic integration. In addition, we are always looking for strategic cooperation opportunities with new suppliers, in order to bring a variety of products from many regions with high quality, ensure food safety to fulfill shopping demands of our customers”.

OCOP Fair 2022 is implemented under the direction of the Departments of Industry and Trade of Hanoi, Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City, which is expected to open up more new partnerships, and many OCOP products, regional specialties will soon be available on MM stores in the near future. Further, we expect to export more high-quality OCOP products and regional specialties to the global markets” – Mr. Bruno added.

Within the framework of the opening event “OCOP Fair – Vietnamese Specialties Development and Integration”, MM Mega Market Vietnam and the provincial Departments of Industry and Trade signed the MOUs to promote the production and consumption of OCOP products. Especially, at the event, MM Mega Market also made a cooperation agreement with 25 OCOP suppliers, to bring these products into the distribution channel of the MM distribution systems in the near future.

After the OCOP Fair in October 2020, in which 14 MOUs were signed with Departments of Industry and Trade of provinces, thousands of high-quality OCOP products are being distributed in the MM nationwide stores. Through the OCOP Fair 2022, customers have the opportunity to purchase regional specialties at competitive prices from MM.

Additionally, in the opening event of the Ho Chi Minh City’s “OCOP Fair – Vietnamese Specialties Development and Integration”, the Department of Industry and Trade and MM Mega Market Vietnam have launched the program “Say no to the use of plastic bags and single-use plastic products”. This ultimate action plan contributes to the goal of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Industry and Trade. Specifically, by the end of 2022, 100% supermarkets and trade centers will replace disposable plastic bags by eco-friendly packaging. This aims to decrease the consumption of single-use plastic products by 65% in 2023.
